Each air ambulance is a private medical jet configured to serve as a mini-intensive care unit. In addition to numerous medications and intravenous supplies, the aircraft equipment includes ventilators, airway management kit, oxygen, infusion pumps, suction units, EKG/vital sign monitor, defibrillator, and external pacemaker. 

Additional specialty equipment is available based on patient's condition such as IAB pumps, ECMO and neonatal isolette. Flight medical staff comprise of critical care paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, and physicians. All medical flights are staffed and equipped according to each patient’s needs. We will coordinate with your attending physician to ensure you get the necessary available medical support leading up to and during your flight. 
Global Reach Medical can obtain receiving hospital acceptance, retrieve pertinent medical records, arrange the necessary ground transportation, and secure any required immigration/visa approvals. We frequently work with translators to quickly receive the details needed from the sending facility to ensure we have all the information necessary before air medical transportation.

Unfortunately, it is not unusual for travelers and employees working abroad to require repatriation by air medical transportation after experiencing injury or illness. Patients who have this experience abroad usually return to their country of origin to ensure they are receiving the best possible care from in-network providers. The second type of repatriation patient is one who is returning to obtain further rehabilitation services or recovery at home with loved ones. Critical Care Flights - Bariatric Patients

Bariatric patients are a specialty population and every request for bariatric air ambulance transport is evaluated on a case-by-case basis to make sure that the transport can be performed in a safe manner. This includes obtaining measurements of height and girth so that the appropriate mode of transport is determined for the patient.

We can arrange for safe air transportation on a 24-hour notice. Provision for capable ground ambulance to assist with bariatric patient transfer to and from facilities is also available.     

Patient Transport by Air - Sea Level Flights

If a patient cannot tolerate the change in atmospheric pressure, medical planes can operate sea level flights. Before a flight, the transporting medical team will review a patient’s medical records and assess their current condition to decide whether a flight at sea level is advisable.

In case a sea level flight is needed, they will take the necessary steps to ensure the patient's safety after takeoff and at altitude above sea level. The team will ensure that the plane cabin will be pressurized during the flight so that the barometric pressure is similar to ground levels.

For individuals that become ill or injured while away from home, our Repatriation Specialists can ensure a comprehensive placement. Prior to a patient being repatriated home, a prearranged admission bed and an accepting receiving physician are required. 

To obtain the proper type of bed, at an appropriate facility, our hospital bed find service carefully assesses the patient's current care requirements. This includes communicating with treating physicians, assessing patient needs like treatment planning, definitive care requirements, specialty care equipment, and isolation precautions.                        

Insurance Claims

Global Reach Medical works closely with all major insurance companies to determine coverage and identify benefits and/or exclusions. Coverage is usually dependent on transport to the nearest appropriate hospital and medical necessity for an air ambulance. From pre-authorization, to obtaining a physician certificate of medical necessity for air ambulance transport, to air ambulance insurance claims submission, to claim denial appeal, we work hard to limit your final out-of-pocket expenses. 

Air ambulance services typically require payment before transportation can take place. If your insurance plan is unable to guarantee payment prior to aircraft dispatch, an upfront retainer is required.
